We are proud to re-release Dragon’s Lair: The Legend, a truly unique chapter in the Dragon’s Lair franchise and one of the most infamous platforming challenges of the Game Boy era. Originally released in 1991 by Elite Systems Ltd, this game has earned a reputation not just for its connection to the beloved arcade classic, but for its unforgiving difficulty and precise platforming.
Now, players old and new have the opportunity to experience (or relive) the adventure in all its challenging glory. This re-release features the EU version, offering subtle adjustments that make the journey slightly more forgiving—though make no mistake, the legend of its difficulty remains very much intact.

The Story
Dirk the Daring held the maid’s limp and lifeless body gently in his arms, as he surveyed the carnage of the bloody battle scene. With the last gasps of her dying breath, Princess Daphne’s loyal servant had told Dirk the horrible tale of their undoing. It seemed a traitor in their ranks had informed the evil Mordroc that the princess’s caravan was carrying the mythical Life Stone, an ancient artifact rumoured to give its owner limitless power and eternal life. His barbaric army had ambushed the princess’s helpless band, mercilessly slaying all but the beautiful Princess whom they had taken into captivity. Fortunately, before the attack, the maid had used her limited powers of sorcery to shatter the Life Stone into hundreds of pieces and scatter them throughout the land. Dirk knew what he must now do, though he did not relish the task. The Life Stone must be reassembled before Princess Daphne could be rescued from Mordoc’s evil clutches!
Gameplay
Dragon’s Lair: The Legend’s isn’t about slaying dragons or battling evil wizards—it’s about mastering jumps, dodging hazards, and keeping your cool when things go horribly wrong. Dirk must collect all 194 fragments of the Life Stone by journeying through 11 distinct regions, each packed with tricky platforming, moving platforms, and spike traps that will test even the bravest adventurers. There are no enemies to fight—just you, your reflexes, and the ever-present risk of mistiming a jump. If you still have lives left, you’ll respawn right where you fell. But if you run out? Well… let’s just say you’ll be getting very familiar with the starting screen.
This re-release brings back the EU version, which is technically the “easier” version—though that’s a bit like saying a landslide is easier to escape than an avalanche. Unlike the US and Japanese versions, Dirk no longer dies from slightly ambitious jumps, and he even gets an extra life for every 42 Life Stones collected (though never more than 10). Infinite jumping? Not quite, but with some rapid button tapping, you can still achieve the same effect. Don’t worry, the game is still challenging—It just might take a little longer before it breaks you.
