The Legend Returns!

We are thrilled to announce that we are re-releasing Dragon’s Lair: The Legend for the Game Boy! Originally launched in 1991 by Elite Systems Ltd, this challenging platformer has gained a reputation not just for its connection to the iconic Dragon’s Lair franchise, but for its notoriously difficult gameplay. Now, a new generation of players—and those who dared to take it on in the past—will have the chance to relive the adventure.

In Dragon’s Lair: The Legend, players take on the role of Dirk the Daring, who must recover the 194 scattered fragments of the Life Stone before he can rescue Princess Daphne from the evil Mordroc. But don’t expect an easy journey—this is a game that demands precision, patience, and a fearless spirit. You won’t be battling dragons, but instead fighting against gravity, moving platforms, and deadly hazards across 11 distinct regions. Mistakes are costly, and if you run out of lives, it’s all the way back to the start.

The EU Version – A Slightly More Forgiving Challenge

For this re-release, we are bringing back the European (EU) version, which introduces a few adjustments to make the experience slightly more manageable:

No Fall Damage – Unlike the US/JP versions, Dirk won’t perish from high falls.
Extra Lives – Earn one extra life for every 42 Life Stones collected (up to a maximum of 10).
Refined Jumping Mechanics – No more infinite jumping by holding the button—players must tap repeatedly to achieve the same effect.

While these changes make the game a little less punishing, rest assured—the legend of its difficulty remains very much intact.

Can You Beat the Speedrun Record?

For those seeking the ultimate challenge, the current speedrun record held by Sharif for Dragon’s Lair: The Legend stands at an impressive 14 minutes and 34 seconds. Think you have what it takes to beat it? This is your chance to test your skills and prove yourself worthy of the legend!

Pre-orders open March 7th, and the game will ship in April.
Get ready to take on one of the Game Boy’s most infamous platforming challenges!
